Seven years ago I 'celebrated' Father's Day as a father for the first time. But as some of you will remember things hadn't gone quite to plan or script!
Our new baby was just a few days old and fighting for her life in Great Ormond Street hospital. She had made progress over the last few days but there were still lots of massive questions about her future. Big questions like: would she regain consciousness, if she did would she be paralysed or would she have some limited movement...the doctors just did not know what the future would hold for her or for us.
It was a real encouragement to know that so many people were praying for her and for us. I can't speak for anyone else - but what I can say from my experience is that the 'peace that transcends all understanding' that Paul speaks about in Philippians 4:7 is a reality. Going through the 'darkest valley' I experienced the love and presence of God in such a real way [Psalm 23:4].
Our God is not distant, or remote, or uninterested...our God invites us to call him Dad. Whatever you're going through this Father's Day remember that God has promised to be with you - every step of the way. He is faithful and He can do more than we ask or imagine.
